1. Something Blue—Beyond the Bride

Traditionally, the “something blue” is one of those wedding trends left for an outfit or accessory for the bride to wear. Unlike weddings past, expect to see this tradition everywhere in 2018 as sweet, soft blues replacing last year’s dusty rose accent colour.

See how you can add shades of blue into your wedding theme. Highlight the colour using table linens, napkins, and tinted glassware. It can act as a complement to your décor or show off as the main detail. This shade sets a particularly great contrast to a rustic, woodsy setting.

2. Dimensional Lighting

Lighting is a key concept in any wedding: It sets the mood of the reception. Twinkling string lights were previously the go-to illuminator, but 2018 features a minimal brightening structure that adds character.

Deviate from the status quo using various sizes of Edison bulbs, or string mason jar lights in groups, or individually, throughout the venue. Alternating sizes of lanterns strategically set around the reception space add a magical glow. Place candles inside to enhance the geometric shape of the lantern as the light dances about.

3. Minimalist Details

Regardless of your venue, minimalism is having its moment, and it isn’t likely to change anytime soon. Make artful use of negative space and rely on the natural setting already available for a unique aesthetic.

Instead of adding little details, focus on distinguished markers, such as wooden plank tables or sailcloth tents. Move outward from those big aspects by complementing them with only a few small touches, such as unassuming dishware, that won’t distract from the main object itself.

4. Creative Textures

If minimalism isn’t your style, experiment with contrasting textures, fabrics, and colours for a bold look that fits perfectly with a countryside wedding. Create unique table settings using unexpected elements and a range of materials.

Adorn wooden tables with gold fabric runners, acting as backdrops for printed plates and shining silver. The dining table transforms into a rustic, elegant, and unforgettable experience. See this trend as a chance to play with a variety of diverging media.

5. Green Bars

Brides and grooms are always looking to incorporate greenery and nature into rustic weddings. Surprise guests with a new twist on the reception watering hole. “Living” bars, complete with fresh-cut foliage, wood veneer or stained latticework, and clematis are redefining this typical spot. There are pros and cons of different beverage bars at your wedding. Yet, this green touch will leave its mark on guests’ minds.

6. Potted Plant Aisles

Don’t save all these wedding trends for the reception. Add them to your ceremony too. Instead of adding sashes and ribbons to chairs, pay homage to quaint English gardens and make the aisles look a little wild, using potted plants overflowing with flowers.

Place one pot on the first inner chair of each row. Cover up the clay by wrapping pots in coordinating silk fabrics. It creates a synchronized blend that still moves with the natural environment. Use your favourite blooms, mix in florals from the bridal bouquet, or choose to use complementary fauna. Alternate between long- and short-stemmed flowers for a whimsical, fairytale look.

7. Dogwood Bouquets

The overgrown look extends to wedding bouquets. Dogwood is the “it” bloom this season and it’s expected to make an appearance everywhere. This style takes lush, wild bouquets to the next level. Choose to leave as is or complement the green and white bouquet with eucalyptus or tulips.

It’s easy to add these rustic wedding trends to your upcoming nuptials.
