Dining chairs don’t have to be a boring part of the wedding furniture. Turn them from drab to fab using these seven decorating tips.

1. His & Her Signs

Make the bride and groom chair pop with creative signs—they’ll have no problem finding their seat. Handpaint wooden planks with written calligraphy letting the “Mr.” and “Mrs.” know where to sit. Complete these special seats with flowers used in the wedding décor.

While wooden signs are popular for rustic weddings, consider replacing this traditional material with wire. Bend brass or copper wire into the same words to create a whimsical touch that fits perfectly with this wedding style.

2. Bows

Bows are easy, elegant, and, best of all, come in a variety of materials. Choose to tie a bow across the entire back of the chair, or add a long, thin bow on the side. Colour-coordinate the bows with the rest of the décor. Use a silky satin for a contemporary finish while creating a stylish look that doesn’t require an entire chair cover. Opt for a vintage feel with velvet that complements the chair colour and tone of the rustic reception space.

3. Lace and Burlap

Burlap is no longer a dingy material. Lace and burlap is an elegant and beautifully simple combination that instantly dresses up your chair. Wrap burlap and lace around the seat, cutting the lace slightly shorter so that the burlap is visible on either side of it. Complete the look by tying the material in a bow on the back of a chair. If you’re not a fan of lace, add a countrified flower, such as sunflowers or baby’s breath—whichever you think ties in best with your theme.

4. Floral Garlands

Flowers are easy additions to other chair décor ideas, but there’s no reason they can’t be the main act. Add colour to any chair with a variety of floral arrangements.

Hang small bouquets from the back of the chair. Fasten simple arrangements on the side of chairs. Arrange them in long U-shapes, stretching from one side to the other. However you arrange them, flowers instantly add life to furniture.

5. Wreaths

There are so many ways to add wreaths to chairs, whether it’s with heart-shaped twine and kindling, held in place with ribbon and adorned with a flower, or dropped in low U-shapes on the backs of chairs. Wooden hearts capture the romantic vibe while flowers add something special to the magical day.

Take a page from Mother Nature’s book and use single blooms and string pearls to fancy up an otherwise humdrum chair. It’s a delicate look and a simple, classy touch to a usually mundane item.

6. Interwoven Fabric

Play with fabrics, such as ribbon and tulle, to evoke a vibe of casual glamour in your rustic wedding, draping each one as long or short as you like. Combine multiple fabrics, using different colours and even single blooms, and hang them in long, thin sheets down the side of chairs. The delicate material wraps around each chair, creating a rustic-chic look.

7. Picture Frames

Take a trip down memory lane and dress up the ceremony chairs with picture frames on the first and last chair in each row.

Use baby photos, celebrations, and pictures of other fond memories. Buy small frames and secure them using ribbon, wire, and any other material you think matches your ceremony and reception look. It’s unique, it’s easy, and it adds a personal touch that completes the laidback charm of your wedding.
