The floral centerpiece is nice, but we’d be lying if we didn’t think it was a little dated. From quirky to sophisticated and everything in between, here are nine creative centerpieces to inspire your wedding tables.

1. Assorted Vintage Oil Lamps

Candles really set the mood—especially for an evening reception dinner. Not only do vintage lamps create a romantic ambiance, but they add an extra layer of protection around an open flame. You’ll be a little less worried if someone accidentally knocks one over knowing there’s a barrier protecting the flame from directly hitting the table.

2. Floating Balloons

Add to the theme of the wedding with this enchanting, whimsical effect. Tie balloons using fishing line so they appear suspended in mid air and elevated above the crowd. Complete the scene with white tablecloths and twinkling lights for even more romance. This centerpiece works especially well at long tables, where the balloons seem to align in perfect symmetry.

3. Branches of All Sorts

Branch centerpieces bring a natural element to the reception, encompassing a woodsy, earthy feel. If glam is the theme, spray paint them in golds and silvers to spark up the table. Arrange the branches in varying height in one main vase, or choose several different vases with various branches. See how ferns can inspire your wedding décor ideas.

4. Antique Features

Spend time strolling through shops and markets to create centerpieces with character and look for items that speak to both of you as a couple. Whether it’s stacks of vintage books, miniature globes, old clocks and assorted ornaments, each unique piece you find adds an elegant element to the table. Finish it off with stenciled numbers so guests know they’ve made it to the right spot.

5. Fruit-filled Centre

Highlight the organic shape of fresh food for a look that stands out. Fruit centerpieces are as colourful as flowers without being the same tired piece. Use fruit that’s in season or pick varieties that work with your wedding theme. Go for a citrus vibe, using oranges, lemons, and grapefruit, or choose monochromatic hues, such as red, using pomegranates and strawberries. For a final touch, garnish with branches.

6. Under the Sea

This look is perfect for a summer wedding; you and your guests will feel like you’ve been transported to the beach. Alternate different shells with conch and coral, finishing the centerpiece with driftwood for texture. Fill fishbowls with sand and various sea shells. Complete the look with an aqua-coloured runner, reflective of the calm ocean water.

7. DIY Wine Bottles

Don’t return your empties just yet. Get crafty and reuse those bottles as your table centerpieces. Spray paint each bottle for uniformity and stencil or hand write the table number on each one. You can choose to place them among other objects or make the bottle the focal point, complete with a single stemmed flower.

8. Succulents

Add trendy greenery into your wedding with succulents. Choose from vibrant, pastel-coloured purples and pinks to mini cacti and aloe vera. Arrange the succulents in various pots or create mini terrariums for each table. It’s a playful and modern touch guests are sure to love—they can even take them home at the end of the night.

9. Feathers

Feather centerpieces can be arranged in all sizes and colours, providing a unique feature and unexpected exotic element. Choose from big fan feathers to long, peacock ones. It can be as glamorous—think 1920s flapper—or as rustic as you want.
