Figuring out your bridal style includes more elements than you might have previously thought. Each one plays a part your unique bridal style, from the big-ticket items like the dress and the venue, to the smaller parts of the day, such as the decorations and photography.

From blogs to magazines to Pinterest, inspirational outlets are everywhere to hone in on your bridal style. Don’t let the sheer number of wedding boards overwhelm you. Let the tips below guide you for planning your special celebration. And remember, it is your day and you want it to reflect you and your fiancé’s style!

Theme

When you picture the big day, what do you see? Is it a classic outdoor wedding, rustic barn, industrial chic, a big church ceremony and reception? Perhaps you are leaning towards a modern vibe, such as holding your reception in an art gallery. Maybe you prefer a rustic, yet elegant, revitalized barn. The theme sets the tone for the wedding.

What colours come to mind? They could be bright and bold, earth tones, soft pastels, or seasonal colours. You’ll want to pick a palette that matches the wedding scene in your head. From the invitations to the centerpieces, colour is a unifying factor that ties each part of the wedding together.

What adjectives do you use to describe your wedding? These will be especially helpful to bring that theme to reality. Consider making a list of words that describe you as a couple. Then extend this list beyond the wedding into your personal life, thinking about where you shop and how others would describe you—separately and then together. Your hobbies and preferences can all be uniquely incorporated into the wedding design. What makes you unique as a couple is all great inspiration for putting your theme together.

Close your eyes and envision your wedding. When you can picture it all in your mind, you’ll be able to bring this bridal style to life.

Priorities

There’s no doubt you have certain things you want for sure on the big day, but others you can let slide. Knowing what these are will help decide your style and really make the wedding come to life. Maybe a live band is a bigger priority than a sprawling guest list. All of these little pieces work together to define your bridal style.

The type of food and drink served, choosing between a band or a DJ, the ambience and décor, the guest list and size, and where you’ll hold the ceremony itself are all factors that will contribute to you bridal style. Even the season and time of day dictate your bridal style: are you an evening fall wedding or daytime spring wedding?

Look Inward

Think about your personal style first. What do you like? How do you dress? What does your home look like? A wedding is a celebration of your love for each other, but also a vision of things you personally enjoy.

You might be leaning towards pastels or muted colours, thinking of an elegant and timeless theme, or maybe you prefer a retro and quirky wedding with bold hues. For your dress, look to fabrics and styles you already enjoy. If you prefer a minimalist design in your home, chances are you’ll opt for minimalist décor in the wedding venue.

Your style is who you are and in your wedding guests will notice these touches. Planning your wedding goes beyond what’s current and trendy to show how you live your everyday life. Whatever it is, your personal style is a big component of your bridal style: It’s a reflection of you. You might be a little experimental in some factors, such as the gown and minor décor touches, but the majority of the wedding has your taste at the forefront.
