Here are some of the ways you can make that meal memorable for your wedding guests in 2017.

1. Signature Cocktails

A specialty drink can be a great way of setting your wedding apart. There’s something truly unique about having a mixologist prepare a drink for you and your new spouse, something completely original.

A mixologist will meet with you to go over your expectations, other catering plans, and general aesthetic and vision for your wedding. Using your ideas and personal tastes, a quality mixologist can make a drink that reflects the two of you and cohesively brings together your theme. There are a lot of different directions you can take, from something sophisticated and classy to a fun drink that can give your guests a laugh.

2. DIY Stations

DIY stations have already begun making appearances at weddings, but in 2017 they are going to be huge. A DIY station is a station wherein your guests can get creative and make their own food.

A DIY station is a different food setup idea that will obviously need to be offered alongside properly catered food, but it’s a nice break from the more traditional plated meal that guests have come to expect. DIY stations work best with simple, fun, and easy to prepare foods. Some ideas include a mashed potato or taco bar with all the fixins—something that won’t be too difficult but will also be a lot of fun.

3. Comfort Foods

This is on track to be another of the big trends for wedding catering ideas in 2017. In the last few years, couples have slowly broken away from the expectation that the food offered has to be sophisticated or complicated.

Serving comfort food isn’t about offering low-quality choices, it’s about offering some of the foods your guests will lovebest prepared with a twist by talented chefs. Mac and cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches, donuts, and burritos are all some of the foods that have begun to appear on wedding catering menus. Exceptionally made and incredibly delicious, they’re revolutionizing the way we think of wedding catering.

4. Alternative Desserts

It’s no secret that everyone looks forward to the dessert portion of the catered meal, and offering alternative kinds of desserts alongside the wedding cake can be a great way to appeal to everyone’s tastes.

People have been getting incredibly creative when it comes to the types of desserts they offer on their wedding menus. Cupcakes, cookies, macaroons, and even pie are all some of the options that have begun to trend in the last year. In 2017, this trend shows no signs of stopping. It’s also another good opportunity to incorporate the DIY stations. For example, offer a smores bar where guests can create their own gooey treats!

5. Take Home Cake Boxes

Finally, one of the top wedding catering ideas to take advantage of in 2017 is the take-home cake box. It’s customary to give a small wedding favour to your guests as they leave, and giving them a slice of cake in a cute little box can serve as a great wedding favour.

Many of the favours that are given out have practical use to their recipients, but everyone loves a good piece of cake. For your friends and relatives coming from afar, this offering can be a nice treat for them as they head home. It’s not even something you have to provide in lieu of a wedding favour—it makes a great addition to whatever you have planned for your guests.
