The traditional definition of rustic means “relating to the countryside,” but in relation to weddings, rustic can just mean a simpler style or fashion. Part of the popularity in this wildly favoured wedding trend is its versatility. Rustic can apply to almost any aspect of your wedding and it’s also a loose term that you can really define however you want.

If you’re a bride or groom-to-be and you’re considering a rustic wedding of your own, here are five stunning rustic wedding venues in the GTA that are worth checking out.

1. Country Heritage Park

Although it may be a little outside the GTA, Country Heritage Park located in Milton, is certainly worth the drive. This expansive property offered a number of rustic spaces that can accommodate both a wedding ceremony and reception, but the premier space is The Gambrel Barn.

This spacious barn is a new build, making use of traditional building methods to preserve the rustic feel of the space. The Gambrel Barn combines country charm with modern amenities such as hydro, gas heating and renovated washroom facilities. With a maximum capacity of 350 seated guests or 500 in a cocktail reception format, this barn is perfect for even large scale weddings.

2. Artscape Gibraltar Point

Artscape Gibraltar Point, located on the serene shores of the Toronto Islands is a picture-perfect backdrop for any rustic wedding.

A quick 10 minute ferry ride from downtown gets you to Gibraltar Point which has five event spaces accommodating up to 2,000 guests. The Beacon Room and Fireplace Room both offer an option for indoor events while still being surrounded by the lush flora and fauna of the property. The South and West Lawns provide a picture perfect backdrop for an outdoor wedding ceremony, while the Beach is a secluded sandy secret, offering guests some of the most sublime views of Lake Ontario.

3. York Mills Gallery

If you’re searching for a rustic wedding venue that veers into the territory of industrial chic, look no further. York Mills Gallery, located in midtown Toronto, is a 22,000 sq feet loft-style space that boasts brick, industrial aged beams, large windows, and high ceilings, making it perfect for many different types of events and celebrations.

The space can be divided into two separate venues, seating up to 650 guests, or accommodating up to 850 guests for cocktails. Whether you make use of only one room, or decide to move your wedding guests between venues, York Mills Gallery offers a lot of flexibility in a stunning atmosphere.

4. Fermenting Cellar

The Distillery District located off of Parliament St. has been a popular wedding venue ever since it was revamped in 2001, and one of its most unique spaces is the Fermenting Cellar.

Once a working operation, The Fermenting Cellar has now been transformed into a chic rustic event space featuring the original limestone walls, heavy timber beams, and trusses for a beautiful industrial setting. This venue can accommodate a wide range of events from corporate gatherings to large-scale weddings.

5. Rainbow Valley Wedding Barn

The Rainbow Valley Wedding Barn is a dream venue, which seems as though it was ripped from the pages of a fairytale. It’s a gorgeous space inside and out with the historic 120-year-old, 4,300 square foot barn which holds up to 250 guests and the lush beauty of the greenery and towering oak trees around the property.

Located in the hills of Caledon, the Rainbow Valley Wedding Barn is a unique destination within easy reach of the city.
