There are always plenty of reasons to celebrate! A birthday party, an engagement, a retirement, an anniversary—the list of events goes on and on. Of course, sometimes you don’t want to have a big shindig. That can make finding a venue difficult; many venues will be too large and too costly to host a small, intimate gathering.

Download our free guide on everything you need to know about planning a corporate event.

What you may not know is that there are plenty of amazing small party venues around Toronto—including the ones on this list.

7. The Everleigh

The Everleigh is a club and lounge venue that is anything but boring. It comes with full kitchen facilities and some pretty comfortable furniture (including comfy sofas and chairs) for a small, laid-back gathering.

The event space can be rented for as few as 100 people, and the patio is even smaller and available to rent separately. Keep in mind, this venue also runs as a club, so be careful of their rental hours.

6. The Gates

Take a quick trip down the stairs of this century-old building, located in Toronto’s historic church district, and descend into a bygone era. Although the space can accommodate up to 450 people, a seated party has a maximum capacity of 150 guests. This building features historic stonework and soaring ceilings, so that any gathering will feel both intimate and roomy.

The Gates is still considered one of Toronto’s “hidden gems” among small party venues.

5. The Hockey Hall of Fame

Got some sports nuts in your entourage? Book your party at the iconic Hockey Hall of Fame. While renting the entire facility will get you space for around 1,000 attendees, the venue offers several options to host more intimate affairs, making it one of the city’s more intriguing small party venues.

The Tim Hortons Theatre, for example, will accommodate parties of 90 seated, while the D.K. Seaman Hockey Resource Centre has capacity for 80. This is perfect for a company event—or for Dad’s milestone birthday.Party amongst the hockey greats!

4. The ROM

The Royal Ontario Museum is a destination for many people, both Torontonians and tourists alike. While the ROM may be famed for its displays, its role as one of Toronto’s small party venues is lesser known. Some of the event spaces available will accommodate large parties, but there are also options for gatherings of 50 to 80 people. If you have anyone interested in science or history, this can be an exciting venue choice for a corporate or personal event.

3. Artscape Wychwood Barns

Located on Christie Street, this venue was once a transit facility. Since opening in 2008, it has become a hub for community, the arts, and the environment. Its artful restoration, complete with abundant natural light and soaring ceilings, creates a dramatic backdrop for any event you can think of.

Better yet, two of the three event spaces are cozy options for intimate gatherings of less than 100 people.

2. Design Exchange

This historic landmark is front and centre in downtown Toronto. Located in the TD Centre on Bay Street, Design Exchange was once Toronto’s original Stock Exchange, and now houses Canada’s only design museum.

The Library and the Main Lobby event spaces are perfect for small gatherings, accommodating anywhere from 30 to 90 people against a background of art moderne architecture. If you are looking for a venue that oozes a sense of achievement, look no further. Design exchange is perfect for corporate events and for personal celebrations.

1. Artscape Sandbox and Youngplace

A somewhat quirky entry in the small party venues category, theseArtscape event spaces are divided by address. The Sandbox is located on Adelaide Street, while the Youngplace event spaces are located at 180 Shaw. Both are excellent choices for small, private gatherings.

The Sandbox can accommodate up to 200 people for a cocktail event, but just 100 people for seated events. The Flex Gold Studio, one of the larger spaces, can accommodate 150 people for a cocktail event.
