1. Dessert Stands

Display those delectable treats in a new way. Instead of arranging goodies on standard glass tiers, arrange them on wooden crates to add a rustic touch that ties in perfectly with the rest of your wedding décor. Set cupcakes, cannoli, pies, and anything else you’re serving on top and inside the crates.

You can stack them in a pyramid fashion or leave one crate on either end of the dessert table. If you’re also serving a wedding cake, make sure it’s the centre of attention by surrounding it among other mouthwatering desserts.

2. Drink Holders

Apply the dessert idea to your glassware. Crate drink holders can be done in several ways. You can place clear pitchers filled with refreshing beverages on top of sturdy crates, adding flowers and fauna for a woodsy, fairytale setting. You could fill empty crates with glassware and leave them on tables arranged as drink stations, so guests simply need to grab a glass and help themselves to a beverage.

However you choose to set the scene, crates offer an artsy way of displaying drinks while complementing your rustic wedding. You can even look for pre-divided crates to place individual clean glasses in and have waitstaff refill empty slots as necessary.

3. Flower Vases

Save the glass vases for another time. Stack crates on their side and fill them with cascading bouquets and lanterns. Depending on how big of a floral arrangement you want, you can look for bigger crates that can hold a larger number of flowers. For table centerpieces and floral arrangements, place potted plants inside tiny wooden crates. If you’re still stuck deciding what to put on guests’ tables, consider these nine creative centerpieces. Crates and flowers are the perfect complement for your country reception.

4. Table Legs

Add a whimsical touch to your rustic wedding by placing a wooden plank overtop two columns of three or four stacked crates. You’ve just created a completely new table, which can be used to hold drinks, dessert, and favours. Instead of adding tablecloths or runners, leave the table natural for guests to appreciate the artwork.

5. Photo Holders

Create an old-fashioned photo display by arranging crates upward in pyramid style. Fill each one with one or two framed photos of the happy couple on first dates, vacations, family photos, and other special memories. The crates will look a little less empty if you complement the photos with DIY triangle-cut signs and flowers around the frames. It’s a nostalgic touch and an expressive way of displaying photos.

6. Sign Props

Your guests will have no problem finding their tables when they can glance at the handwritten outline inside the large crate. Look for longer, taller crates that can fit enough paper for each table. Display a “Find Your Seat” sign, with individual table cards underneath that identify where each guest is seated. Place this right at the entrance so guests see it immediately. Tie it into the rest of the décor with similar paper and ink, such as taupe-coloured card stock and handwritten calligraphy.

7. Program Placeholders

Any kind of crate will work for this idea. Search for big, spacious crates or use crates that have pre-set dividers. Fill the empty crate, or slots, with copies of the wedding program and let guests help themselves to one on the way in. Fasten each program with twine to complete the look before moving crates on tables near the entrance.
