The Design Exchange is unique in a number of ways, for one it is a non-profit design museum, highlighting a number of design disciplines including fashion, industrial design, digital design, architecture, interior design and more. It is also a center for the advancement and promotion of Canadian design. Being a non-profit organization, all proceeds from events go towards promoting, preserving, and educating on Canadian design impacts and initiatives, definitely a worthy cause.

Located in the historic Toronto Stock Exchange building at the intersection of Bay and King Station, the Design Exchange couldn’t be better situated. This central Toronto location even has a back door that links to Toronto’s underground PATH system, making it accessible in many ways. Not to mention that the former Toronto Stock Exchange building lends both a culturally stimulating dimension, and also happens to be one of the most aesthetically pleasing historic buildings in the city. Originally built in the height of the 1930s and since receiving a 6.3 million dollar restoration, the building is an Art Deco and Streamlined Moderne work of notability.

The Trading Floor is the piece de resistance, featuring 40-foot-high ceilings adorned with 8 murals by distinguished artist, Charles Comfort and a stylish VALE INCO Grand Staircase. This evocative space is the largest available, suitable for public events, press conferences, product launches, large corporate functions, weddings, receptions and dinners. Capacity ranges on event set-up from Banquet style seating at 250-300 people to a reception or theatre style event to hold 500 people. The space is also well fitted with sound and lighting systems.

The Design Exchange offers four other rooms for capacity needs between 24 and 90 people for uses ranging from boardroom set-ups to banquet options. These areas include the Library, suitable for private functions like press conferences and private lunches. Another room is the Heaslip Boardroom, convenient for a reception of 50 people or board meeting of 24 people. This room is adjacent to the breakout lounge with a kitchen, conducive for private catering. The Exhibit Hall is also available to book concurrently with suitable exhibitions and can be integrated with curatorial tours.

An impressive and elegant space, complete with adaptable spaces and distinctive opportunities, the Design Exchange is not only a great place for any event, it offers the opportunity to create a unique event experience. Guests are sure to be in awe, and hopefully opened up to the rich history of Canadian design as well.
